xTool unveiled the X1 on August 27, a desktop laser platform that combines gantry movement and galvo scanning in a single system. The company is targeting an October 2026 launch, following the machine's European debut at IFA Berlin in September.

According to xTool's published configuration, the X1 pairs a baseline 55 W CO2 laser with a galvo head containing a 20 W diode. Its Laser Swap system adds support for optional 30 W fiber, 60 W MOPA and 5 W UV modules, extending the platform across cutting, engraving and marking applications.

Hybrid Motion Puts the Galvo on the Gantry

Conventional galvo lasers steer a beam with fast-moving mirrors while the head remains fixed. That makes them well suited to rapid marking, but the lens limits the area the beam can cover from one position. Gantry machines move the laser head across a larger bed, trading some of that speed for reach.

The X1 combines those two approaches. Its galvo head travels on a gantry, with the two motion systems working from the same coordinate map. xTool calls this four-axis arrangement Hybrid Motion and says it can divide a job between gantry movement and local galvo scanning.

In practical terms, the gantry repositions the head across the bed while the galvo handles the faster beam movement within each section. To maintain alignment as the machine moves from one section to the next, xTool says it evaluated more than 50 optical designs, completed over 1,000 calibration tests and developed a separate calibration model for each laser source.

xTool quotes processing speeds of up to 6,000 mm/s across what it describes as a wide-format working area.

Laser Swap Broadens the Material Range

The X1's other defining feature is Laser Swap, a modular system that routes different laser sources through the galvo head. Alongside the CO2 and diode sources described in xTool's published configuration, the company plans a 30 W fiber module, a 60 W MOPA module and a 5 W UV module.

The modules mount at the rear and feed into a shared optical path. This gives the platform a route into applications that would ordinarily require separate machines, from cutting common sheet materials to marking metals and processing materials that benefit from UV.

This modular approach is central to xTool's positioning of the X1. Rather than building the machine around one fixed source, the company is presenting it as a platform that can be expanded as a workshop's material and production needs change. xTool says each laser source uses its own calibration model, with automatic calibration intended to simplify switching between modules.

A Frame Designed for Hybrid Motion

Moving an optical scanner across a gantry places different demands on the frame than a fixed galvo system. xTool says the UniCast Frame is formed from automotive-grade aluminum alloy using a 4,000-ton high-pressure die-casting process. Three monolithic sections replace nearly 100 assembled parts and more than 268 screws, reducing the number of joints in the structure. According to the company, this is intended to improve precision, thermal stability and durability during sustained operation.

Atomm Sits Across the Wider xTool Range

Alongside the X1 hardware, xTool highlighted Atomm, its existing design and project platform, which the company describes as the "intelligent digital engine" across its hardware portfolio. Atomm brings together AI-assisted design, project files, material parameters and previews for workflows spanning printing, engraving, cutting and textile decoration. It is part of xTool's wider software ecosystem rather than an X1-only feature.

October Launch Target, With IFA First

xTool is aiming to launch the X1 in October 2026. Its German announcement gives the clearest regional schedule so far, with a deposit phase planned for the end of September and retail availability expected at the end of October.

Before then, the machine is scheduled to make its European debut at IFA Berlin, held from September 4 to 8. xTool will exhibit at Booth 127 in Hall 20, where European visitors will be able to examine the hybrid motion system in person.

xTool also maintains an official Facebook group for small-business users for product updates and community discussion.

By combining Hybrid Motion with Laser Swap, the X1 brings large-format gantry travel, high-speed galvo scanning and support for several laser sources into one desktop platform.
