About 3D Printing for Business

3D Printing for Business reports on 3D printers, UV printers and laser cutters, and the tools that go with them, for the businesses and makers who put them to work. New machines get written up when they are announced and again once they ship, with the prices stores actually charge. The longer guides on running costs, consumables and pricing are living pages, updated as prices move rather than rewritten from scratch each year.

The publication is the editorial side of 3D Printing Cost Calculator, a free cost calculator for 3D printing, and its business tool 3DPCC.

David Chacón is the editor and writes the articles. He runs a working print farm, which is where the production data in our cost coverage comes from: machine time, failure rates, consumable use and electricity are measured on our own machines rather than estimated.

Prices come from public listings, manufacturer announcements and stores we can link to. Every article lists its sources and the date its prices were checked, and says so when a price is announced rather than payable today.

Most launches are reported from those announcements and listings, before anyone outside the manufacturer has used the machine, and the article says as much. Where we have had one on the bench, it says whether we bought it, borrowed it, or were sent it.

Prices go stale and specs change. If something here is wrong or out of date, tell us: we correct it, and the change is noted on the article.
